Mother and child disunion

Here I was all set to knock out a Christmas column full of cheer and bonhomie but life, or more accurately, Daily Life has intervened.

I normally disapprove of intra-media byplays but Fairfax Media’s Daily Life section has become so full of cranky third wave feminism that someone needs to hold it up to the light. Among this waste of ink and kilobyte street corner psychobabble, comes a contribution from self described feminist Polly Dunning who tells her harrowing tale of giving birth to a shame boy. The good news is she’s slowly getting over it.

I’m not allowed to swear anymore, at least not at volume but this is sorely testing my already fragile grip on self-control.

At first blanch this was merely another addition from women who have recently given birth and have come to believe that having done so, they have unlocked the secrets of the universe. But on further reading this is a tale of a woman not just at war with men but also her own male child.

Full column here.

Did you see Jane Caro’s tweet about her “brave” daughter……..ignorant and totally stupid more like.
I had two difficult pregnancies and labours to match and quite frankly didn’t give a stuff what came out as long as they were fit and healthy and had the requisite numbers of fingers and toes.
Some of the anti-male stuff the SMH pedals is quite sickening, Clementine Ford a case in point and don’t get me going on Lena Dunham’s latest rant……who is she?
Suffice to say Mr Jack, merry Christmas to you and yours, thankyou for yet another year of thoughtful repartee.

    • Jack The Insider says:

Lena Dunham? I believe she’s an actress or summat. Made an unfortunate remark about abortion recently. Terrific to have you on the blog, Tracy. Wishing you and yours a very happy Christmas.

  • Jean Baptiste says:

Poor girl. That could have turned out very badly. As it was she was able to make the adjustment, but therein is a salutary lesson for all women who are contemplating shagging blokes. You could end up with one inside you.

God only knows what he will turn out like, but on the pro side he should have the life skills to get any amount of nooky.

  • Milton says:

Females are an unhinged abstraction from the time they can read, or text, and at the best of times, but once their messy and confusing melange of bits go in to overdrive from pregnancy onwards it is unchartered, unpredictable and indecipherable territory. If there is a reason for the female to exist it is to produce males, temporarily gratify males and then make males life merry bloody hell.
I doubt xmas stockings will be part of this lads life and I certainly hope the mum uses disposable nappies and nothing requiring pins. If I was his uncle he’d be getting a Ken doll and a toy tank every xmas until he is old enough to get a Sports Illustrated calendar.
ps. this bit concerns me most: (why do we plan things we cannot control?!), She must be a lefty, socialist, greeny type if she wants to control life. Probably a primary school teacher who takes her frustrations out on the boys.

    • Penny says:

Your comment makes no sense Milton

      • Milton says:

You’re a female, Penny. And worse, an academic! No discussions entered into. I’ve joined the brotherhood of male. No females entered into! Chop your own fire wood sisters!

        • Carl on the Coast says:

We’re all creatures of our environment Milton. Some of us inhabit different environments than others. And then there are some of us who are both ambiguous and ambidextrous.

          Its a wonderful world, eh.

      • smoke says:

a wonderful example of the oeuvre, tho….

    • Bella says:

Why must she be a “lefty, socialist, greeny type” Milt? Strange mate.
Frankly I imagine the total opposite when you have a raging feminist career driven mother with a loopy reluctance to nurture a boy, might she just as easily be a conservative, ‘break the glass ceiling’ far right wing corporate gal with lofty ambitions to knock out the men who stand in her career path? Just saying.
Merry Christmas funny man, regards Bella

    • Trivalve says:

I am of the opinion that your post was something along the lines of a tongue-in-cheek jab Milton. I applaud it. Here’s an on topic haiku 4 u (think of it as a Christmas present):

      Australian ‘nana
      Some despise, more are hunting
      tadpoles in the drain

  • Carl on the Coast says:

If one takes a deep breath, one may conclude that Polly Dunning’s story is quite understandable and not such a big deal.

I blame it all on the progressives who seized control of the ACB post 1970. From memory, they swiftly allowed ‘Portnoy’s Complaint’ open slather on the Australian population. It was a story about a young Jewish bachelor’s libidinal urges that lead him to get ‘all up and personal’ with a lump of uncooked calf’s liver.

Many thought it was always going to be downhill from then on.

Hot on the heels of that ACB decision came the endless selection and supply of Hollywood’s sci-fi parthenogenic/psychoplasmic disturbing pregnancy productions. They graphically screened countless images of alien facehugging, closely followed by humanoid xenomorphs bursting through the non-aliens’ rib cages.

Five’l get you ten Polly Dunning saw some of those movies which may have had a lasting subliminal effect. Hence the sort of stuff that emerged in her piece for Fairfax.

Seems ironic that while the progressives want to cling to 18C, some of them yelp when the likes of Polly Dunning pens a fairly harmless expose of her own pregnancy feelings and experiences.

As for her young son, he’ll survive. After all, we coped okay with the calf’s liver.

  • Penny says:

I am absolutely speechless. This is the most ridiculous twaddle I have come across in a long time. She’s not a feminist, she has no idea what feminism is if this is the sort of crap she is coming out with. She mentions the child’s father, and her father and all the other male figures in her family as being feminists…..ah I don’t think so, emasculated men more likely. God help her son and for that matter her daughters being brought up by this lunatic. I’ve met some unusual feminist ideologists in my time, but it is now just getting sad and silly.
Fairfax really do need to take a good look at themselves by allowing rubbish like this to be published.
Merry Christmas JTI and to all you terrible men in this blog, may you all carry on in your own non-feminist, male misbehaving ways….oh and to all the women on this blog, who really are the real deal when it comes to being a feminist . Cheers

    • Jack The Insider says:

Terrific comment, Penny. Many thanks for for your fine sentiments. Have a fantastic Christmas.

    • Bella says:

Most of us get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds & who we don’t but we can’t ever choose our parents be they nurturing or destructive it really is a roll of the dice for their offspring.
Hopefully this young tantrum princess will lock eyes with her son one day soon (that’s the first profound exchange) & will realise how precious he is & that her embarrasing inflated ego is not important but his early years definitely are.
      Have a great Christmas Penny.
      My best, Bella

  • Henry Blofeld says:

We have just read your full column Mr Insider and were shocked by some of the revelations Ms Dunning uttered and this one in particular “There were dark moments in the middle of the night (when all those dark thoughts come), when I felt sick at the thought of something male growing inside me.” WTF since when can you enter a pregnancy sure of just having a female child which is what she wanted! Disgraceful and let us pray her new born Son grows up a happy well looked after and well adjusted lad. Good revealing read Mr Insider!

  • Dismayed says:

Mary FN Xbox eh? Pre/Post Natal depression and relevance deprivation anxiety.

  • Bella says:

Polly must’ve liked a male at least once or she’d have no child at all.
Personally I say she doesn’t deserve him. Poor little man.
Save us from loons like her & throw in the Breastfeeding Nazis while we’re on the subject as well.
    Regards, Bella

  • wraith says:

And then there are the ones who take the baby home, spend all the cash on drugs and booze, hang out with some ferrel animal of a man….. get the kid killed before two, after many horrendous months of torture, abuse and neglect.
Bitches are bitches. My god they are awful. Almost as awful as the men in places like Aleppo who got some poor bitch knocked up and she’s giving birth in a bomb crater, cos, hell there’s nothing like sex in a war zone right? (Why are there so many children under four in that joint?)
    .
Humans are horrible. Some of them. All of them in one way or another. The woman obviously has problems and I feel for any man around her. However, lets not lose sight of the fact that someone knocked her up, without regard for who she is, and how she would treat a child given to her. I hope that person steps up as a human being or an adult, but, on their judgement so fair, I doubt it.
    .
Like that old mate of mine that stuck it to a (cough) lady in a snooker hall doing shots, and bugger, it did turn out to be his kid. Then he found out he had a heart (bit late), and the kid being farmed out to her ‘boyfriends’ so she could do shots of smack, broke it (his heart). I fought with him to get the girl away from her, and in the end he did, but not before his own stupid lack of thought and responsibility with life and caused so much grief to someone else.
    .
Long point short, no-body should have given it to her.
    .
Dont read the stupid bitches Jack. Only read the smarter ones, like me! 🙂
    cheers.
    .
ps I understand, it takes an almighty mortal kick up the arse and one can become a bit short-tempered with idiots. Float above it dear one!

    • Jack The Insider says:

My point is this dross shouldn’t be published, Wraith. The fact it was tells us standards have dropped to new lows at Fairfax. Your comment amused me all the same.

      • Dismayed says:

Only at Fairfax JTI? You will not like this but I do not think I would be alone in thinking this. There are many in the team at the Australian that write opinion dressed up as fact 7 days a week. The bloke from Adelaide, Owens is one of the worst, then you have Albrechtsen, what did the world ever do her?, Cater, Collier, Oriel, Lloyd the Akerman? Aikmen? Shanahan clans, Henderson Puhlease1, Ergas ditto, Sloan moan, the list goes on and on. I think having a go at a competitor is one ting but the Australian No longer serves all Australians. It has led the lurch to the right in this country. Yes there is a lot of rubbish put out by media outlets all are guilty.
Having had a bit to do with young professional graduate woman the last couple of years they seem to come up with all kinds of reasons/ways to confuse. I think a lot of it stems from the competitive environment created by businesses within workplaces/workgroups to out perform team mates which breaks down cohesive teamwork in that quest to outshine. Sometime that requirement produces this sort of out there output. Oh and I see recent research say that Baby brain is a real thing with changes to the grey matter which effects empathy amongst other things.

        • Jack The Insider says:

How would you know, Dismayed? You don’t subscribe. What I can tell you is, unlike the SMH, The Australian has editorial processes, judgement and a filter.

          • BASSMAN says:

You don’t have to subscribe to smell bias Jack. Many people including myself prefer hard copy. Please count up the columns against Labor and for the coalition from these people below-a simple but worthwhile exercise. In some cases they are hundreds against Labor with harly any against the Liberals…a 6 year daily tirade that even these mortals must be running out of things to write about against Shorten’s mob! I once started counting and just gave up. Gerard Henderson, Simon Benson, Joe Hilderbrand, Miranda Devine, Chris Kenny, Piers Akerman, Judith Sloan, Paul Kelly, Niki Savva, Henry Ergas, Janet Albrechtsen, Terry McCrann, Peter Van Onselen, Greg Sheridan, Dennis Shanahan, Tim Blair….. and of course Bolt!! I laughed once when Malcolm Farr stated he often worried about the election of a Labor government because Piers Akerman would have nothing to write about!
You get no balanced reporting from these people. You know my views on Shorten and Labor and you know I don’t vote for any of them. That is why I try to present the other side because you won’t find it amongst the above. Some of the best journalists you have have left. They couldn’t stand it….I defend your right to defend your sustenance. Any breadwinner would but if you don’t detect bias in the writings of these people when we have a government that is easily the worst we have ever had then you need to re-enrol in Journalism 101. I know in your heart you agree with some of this.

          • Dismayed says:

JTI. I have been putting coins in the slot of my computer, “subscribing” if you like since Rupert kicked it off several years ago.

          • Dismayed says:

$32.00 per month now, wow that has gone up since it first started I think it has almost doubled since I started putting the coins in the slot for the privilege of reading what is now The Conservative Australian.

            • Jack The Insider says:

A dollar a day, Dismayed. Pretty much the market rate. WaPo, NYT etc. Here you get The Australian, the Tele, Hun, CM, ‘Tiser etc. Plus the WSJ now.

          • Carl on the Coast says:

Dismayed – says: “Yes there is a lot of rubbish put out by media outlets all are guilty.”

I agree Dismayed, and you often link it to prop up your posts.

Anyhow, have a peaceful Christmas mate where ever you are.

        • jack says:

          aren’t they all opinion writers?

you know, on the opinion pages.

i don’t think any are reporters, so perhaps we can expect them to offer opinions?

    • Bella says:

      Great post Wraith.
You had me at “Humans are horrible.”
Someone told me once that humans are like slinkies, not really good for anything but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs. Too much you think?

I hope you recover soon & have a terrific Christmas.
As for me, at this point I’m just willing myself to survive this hideous christmas thingy & get back my little patch of peace!
      Roll on Boxing Day.
      Best regards Wraith, Bella

  • PLMO says:

    JTI,

I suppose it would be totally off-side to suggest the photograph is from our Prime Minister’s baby album!!!!

    Unfair I know!!

But as to the substance of your article – God save us from this mind-numbing trivia. After all it is not as though we, as a Nation are short of substantial issues affecting current and future generations.

Anyway, a Happy and Holy Christmas to you and your family.

For our sins we now worship at the KR Church of Choice!! I know, I know one is supposed to have standards – but needs must!!
