Humble servant of the Nation

Donald Trump’s Mexico wall: Here’s a little context …

The Donald said he was going to do it and now he is.

The Great Wall of the Rio Grande, the Trump Wall will stretch almost 2,000 miles (3,100kms) from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico, putting a gleam in the eye of graffiti artists everywhere. Banksy is said to be drooling in anticipation.

The estimated cost of this stunning feat of architecture is anywhere between $10 and $20 billion depending on who you listen to. Construction time is also a bit of a back-of-the-envelope exercise but by the time an exhausted bricklayer slaps the last bit of mortar on it, it is probable Donald Trump will be around 90 years of age.

In centuries to come anthropologists will marvel at it and wonder what far-sighted genius brought it into existence. Maybe even an old shyster like Erich Von Daniken will propose some unlikely theory that the Trump Wall was built by God who arrived by spaceship with the blueprint and a couple of trillion tons of prefabricated concrete.

    Bassy,
How do you think the relatives of these people feel about the National Anthem and for that matter Australia Day?

    • BASSMAN says:

Well I have expressed this opinion for years on the blog. Aborigines get more money spent on them than should be and they have a disproportionate number of their like in the can for all sorts of reasons. My respect is for those who do not flaunt their Aboriginality for personal gain. Up here they don’t have to have fishing licences. Are allowed to catch fish we cannot, get school subsidies than even poorer white kids don’t have access to. I am not denying those Aborigines with genuine need but there are whites in genuine need as well who do not get shoved to the front of the public housing line.

I get upset when Aborigines who live a whiter more materialistic life than many whites use their Aboriginality to have access to things white people don’t and continually run around screaming about ‘our rights’. And that eyesore in front of parliament house is a national disgrace. When I was last there o/seas visitors asked me why we let it happen. We are the laughing stock of the world. A bloody big bonfire in front of P.House raging 24/7. Tents strewn everywhere with empty beer cans all over the place. Clapped out cars. Now if I went and did the same thing I would be arrested and thrown in gaol but this mob get away with it day after day year after year.

        Maybe they were here first?

        I still can’t work out if you’re taking the piss . . .

In South Africa we had apartheid – which basically destroyed every vestige of dignity for those of colour.
On arrival here, it seemed that Australia had ”reverse” apartheid. The treatment of Aboriginals with subsidised grants and handouts in what seems to have been an attempt at making up for past injustices seems to have had the effect of destroying their dignity as well. It has taken away their self-worth.
It’s a difficult one. I would not like to be the person who has to come up with a solution that works.

  • Rodent says:

Got that Jack . Just a little carried away crossing the breach line .Next time , bin me on extended posts putting my name in the book there beside Bassman and CoHD sometime back.

  • Razor says:

    Yvonne,
    Are you a LinkedIn member?

  • Yvonne says:

I’m looking forward to seeing Donald meet the Queen. Do you think he’ll caress her bottom as per Keating’s fine example on that?
Theresa is standing firm I see. The invitation stands. Good on her. Tough lady, no bullshit.

    • Henry Blofeld says:

I think POTUS Trump will carry that august meeting off spiffingly Yvonne, after all he is used to mixing the with rich and famous, Her Maj of course being a special case. Pity that relic of the past, Jeremy Corbyn, the “Arthur Calwell” of the British Labor Party wants Donald banned from England!

    • John O'Hagan says:

He might even grab something. Because when you’re a star they let you do it.

      • Yvonne says:

I’ve no doubt the Don will be utterly charming and obsequious. Don’t know why the Poms are so worried.

      • Jean Baptiste says:

I’d give my left arm to see that! That would have to be close to “lese majeste” wouldn’t it?
I mean, if he did it in public.

    • Trivalve says:

Caress her bottom? Better get some glasses Yvonne

      • Yvonne says:

Bit of artistic licence there, Triv. Fondly put his arm around her waist then? Okay?

      • Penny says:

I didn’t see Keating “caress’ the Queens’ bottom. All I saw was him put his hand on her back as he was introducing her to someone. I also heard she wasn’t the slightest bit offended and did in fact like Paul Keating’s sense of humor.
Oh my God wouldn’t it be great to go back to those simplistic days when all the media had to worry about was something as trifling as that.
I am however a bit worried about what Trump is going to do when he meets good old Betty

        • Jack The Insider says:

Yes, I think Yvonne has acknowledged her description was a tad hyperbolic. It was a gentle touch on the back rather than the way she described it as a borderline sexual assault.

        • Yvonne says:

She’s an amazing woman for sure. Apparently her charisma is awesome if one meets her face to face. Hats off to her. She has managed to remain apolitical for the past 65 years!
I should imagine she will be quietly observant of Mr Trump and not say too much at all.
As for him – well, who knows!! But he does seem to morph into something rather strange – all politeness and non-confrontational. His adulation of the Clintons at his inauguration banquet was quite astonishing – for lack of a better word!

          • Jean Baptiste says:

Bollocks! People are conditioned to be in thrall of the dowdy old bat and get all emotional in their ten seconds of fame.
I suppose we’d find out just how composed she is if Mad Donald did go the goose!
            Or even a wedgie?
Theresa May ……. “Oh my Gawd! What was I thinking, taking this on!”

          • Yvonne says:

It’s not bollocks, JB. Seriously. I think the world will be sad when she goes.

  • Rodent says:

Strange we having reminders constantly over Obama first named these 7 nations Trump now names as terrorist countries from the ME with FBI and Homeland Security coming out with 1000 names being on the terrorist watch list from these ME countries. No point us getting all cooked up on all this now reaching the peak of frustrations that will soon settle down as always. Canada now sees the dangers of RUDD style open gate policies now lead to dangers ahead. Trump just made a comment yesterday that he does not want to have a over inflated FBI staff in America 1000 now reaching 2000 , 3000, on the watch list later.
Just on another subject reading today ,..Russia South Korea Saudia Arabia UAE ,ME Qatar and a host of other countries, won’t take refugees at all . WE Australia as with America Canada and NZ get scorched being a passionate country are in the topon intakes {not counting nations having 1000s jammed in tents in deserts in cruel conditions} with Australia per capita is the highest on all taking refugees . Why are these mad activist whinging when the bulk of the world regions will not except refugees?
It only leaves to a whinging activist culture we breeding in this country lacking the basics . Canada we have silence in the left media ,will not report that the population are outraged with their immigration policies . Canadians crossing into America says their country is in dire need for secure government , that was shown overnight that terror is lurking in that country as well with some local frustration taking place . This all comes down to governments are now in need of proper screening just like America trying to shut out the drug lords trade from Mexico destroying their people with wild opportunists breeding crimes in their own country now crossing into America bringing drugs with them . Lets just take time out and watch the process without getting all abusive wetting our pants over all this and allow the process to continue being a safe America we all want.

  • Dismayed says:

Gee with the ongoing strength in Iron ore and coal prices just imagine if there was some way for the Nation of Australia to benefit and add much needed revenue to the budget from it. Oh wait that’s right we had one but the coalition decided to forego that much needed revenue. No Surprises.

  • Dismayed says:

Closer to home we see the coalitions regressive health measures hit the less well off the hardest. No surprises.
