Here I was all set to knock out a Christmas column full of cheer and bonhomie but life, or more accurately, Daily Life has intervened.
I normally disapprove of intra-media byplays but Fairfax Media’s Daily Life section has become so full of cranky third wave feminism that someone needs to hold it up to the light. Among this waste of ink and kilobyte street corner psychobabble, comes a contribution from self described feminist Polly Dunning who tells her harrowing tale of giving birth to a shame boy. The good news is she’s slowly getting over it.
I’m not allowed to swear anymore, at least not at volume but this is sorely testing my already fragile grip on self-control.
At first blanch this was merely another addition from women who have recently given birth and have come to believe that having done so, they have unlocked the secrets of the universe. But on further reading this is a tale of a woman not just at war with men but also her own male child.
Full column here.
Here comes the future. solar, wind, Hydrogen, hydro. The agility and innovation is just too much for the cons to grasp.

Carl on the Coast 10 :50am .
Poor old Bassman been reading too much of the Dismayed confusion crap all over the shop and no clear thinking comes to posts. Dismayed having high adulation of himself may have loaned his scrap book to Bassman Carl!
Tracy ,..you said it correct both Dismayed and Bassman don’t give credit to successful editorialists being highly qualified in the media , but jeolous of their achievements into they break important reports we all learn from .
WEcan only hope that help is on its way.
Dismayed ,..I feel awfully sorry for you mate on your mental condition being beaton hands down and a sook at that.
Lets hope you learn by your mistakes plus stop influencing Bassman now a sucker falling for your sustained idiot Dismals crap on quotes . I have apprehensions about their sufferings that one day their whinging alarmism may have grave consequences on their defeat aimed at us bloggers while trying to get them back on the railes from their usual ranting nonsense that nothing is wrong with Labor.
Rodent = Delusional. Sad.
You mean Sad Cafe?
Dismayed: I wrote “I still think we have a chance of winning this game. A couple of scenarios to cogitate on. Warner (and another) in full flight could be the key. Bird impressive.”
I think that was reasonably prescient for a mug cricket spectator. And Lyon doing ok as well, with half of the wickets. 3 for 21 off 10, but not the goods in your eyes. You strike me as Never right, Rarely wrong type’s. Considering, in your words, you’re a tall chap and most here would agree that you’re a natural dribbler, you should probably be our basketball commentator.
Bassman – I reckon it’s probably time you went on another cruise, mate. It’d do you the world of good, take your mind off the parlous state of this country and our pollies.
Milton see my reply above to Rodent it was meant for you. But to summarise I see after your rant against woman, your investment advice on bollards, was that for the Baby Boomers running into shops by accident? your soccer and “blue” tune and your beer and prawns yawns and brown nosing to JTI you did actually say very early in the game that you think a result was possible. As above one swallow does not a summer make. Lyon has now bowled 3 good spells this year. I know you are good on the swallow “brown noser’s” usually are.
Dear me, you’re all over the shop ducky and true to form, when flailing about turn the switch to adolescent ad hominem ad nauseam. Still, I should be flattered that you are such a dedicated follower of my craft (alas, lacking stamina and masochism, I cannot reciprocate). After me you are probably my number 1 reader. Sadly, after one swallow you remain a glass half empty dreary whinger. Move along into the new year, son you’re soooo last year and always on the wrong side of history.
Good advice Milt.
Please loan me the money hee hee
If you want money, Bassy I suggest old mate Rodent. The interest rates will be usurious and be sure to keep up to date with the re-payments!
Mack the Knife – i’ve mentioned this before on here, but I sold Chris Bailey’s sister my “Great rock n roll swindle” album. Mum didn’t like the lyrics (!) and I was a bit young. She went to my school. In the clip it looked to me like it was near the civic centre , but I’ve been wrong before (ask Miss Staid!). You would of had some good times in that scene. I don’t believe the youngsters have as many freedoms these days, despite us living in a police state back then!
Gee the armchair cricket critics are sharp aren’t they?
A boring end to the Test eh Bassie? The Pakis 5 for 91 at Tea, still 90 behind. A fabulous batting performance from Australia this morning to set it up, led by Smith but Starc batted like the all rounder we’ve heard about.
Lyon can’t bowl? He’s got three for, with two in three balls. Throwing the ball up, attacking outside off and looking like he could rip through them yet.
Australia can’t win? Give me a look at the life odds right now. This should be a cracking finish.
And they got the chocolates!
Starc and Hazelwood were very good in the last session, but one has to give Lyon plaudits for setting it up with three rapid strikes on the top order. BTW it seems Bill Lawry can’t say Lyons name, in late commentary he mentioned him once as “the spinner”.
Oh and by the way, Handscom has a great pair of hands on him. We’ve struggled for close to the bat fielders in the past.
Of course I meant Hazlewood and Handscomb, just can’t spell after beer o’clock.
…because he is not a Victorian Bald.
I love eating my words on Bradman….like everybody else is in every commentary box in Oz!!
Thank God I didn’t bet Rodent $100bux!!
a ha…..that’s a win Bassy
I see in **BREAKING-NEWS** the earth’s rotation is slowing and there appears to be only two options for us earthlings to consider. One is the insertion of a “leap” second, and the other option (for those who are not so atomically inclined) is to leap off.
It may be all quite facinating for clock-watchers, but I dont think the man or woman in the street could give a fig about a pre-decimal penny being shoved into Big Ben’s pendulum so as to ensure everything is tickety-boo. Or even tickety-tock for that matter.
I mean, who’s got the time to be concerned about the inner workings of glockenspiels and the like?
Nothing new about leap seconds Carl
I was aware TV. I came across the story in The Aus. yesterday and was just attempting a touch of constructive social criticism. You didn’t pick up on that?
It’s quite obvious that our fellow prolific poster on ‘all-things-bright-and-beautiful’ didn’t.
My concentration levels are pretty low at the moment Carl
I see you using your hindsight again Carl. This is hardly a new story.
Dismayed – I know, but it sucked you in mate, eh.
Gotta disagree with you on this one, CotC.
I find the placing of antique coins on the mechanisms of weird, old, giant analogue time instruments to synchronise them with clocks that make their way at atomic precision to be a much more uplifting and interesting thing than pretty much any other thing humans can think of.
And if that doesn’t seem to make sense, add weed, booze and this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4v1WkzY3gA
TB-LS – if that’s supposed to be rock prog, I’ll just settle for the booze at this time of the calendar.
Cheers, and have a good one.
“Juxtaposing “Rodent” and “mental health” in the same sentence evokes instantly and simultaneously an overwhelming range of powerful emotions, the effect momentarily profoundly disturbing and confusing. Whilst it is undoubtedly an insight into how Rodent feels all time, once is quite enough”. TOTALLY CORRECT
Bella,
Compulsory wearing of helmets has saved untold amounts of lives. Great to hear your young bloke is through it relatively unscathed.
Best wishes

Mack the Knife 08:08am .
As you mention governments, SA now suffering power problems failing again ,3 days straight now.
Shutting down main source of power station coal driven supply back up, spells disaster with jobs and businesses gone while Nick Zenothon very angry. These exacerbating problems are growing having mad government state levels against power security as coal supplies that.
Dennis Shanahan back 3 weeks ago gave great coverage on how and why SA no longer efficient been buried in idealogy comes first before commonsense. His input targeted the perpetrators not adequately managing the SA state appropriately driving families jobs and businesses to the wall as blackout outcomes continue while a firestorm of critics will soon target the SA premiers over lost control of the state over his green idealogy now failing the state.
FFS. You cannot transmit power when hundreds of the Private Company owned power lines are broken and on the ground. The Privately owned company has been cutting maintenance and staff. As usual. You are WRONG. Adelaide was hit with another big storm a couple of nights ago knocking over hundreds of power lines.
Well argued Rodent!
SA continuing blackouts no surprise after dire warnings on idealogy madness closing down base load power back up now gone .
Where is Nick the Zenothon having old Tony A talking on Luke Grant how and why these problems of black outs of carnage setting in SA , and now Victoria looking rough around the edges due to mad cut backs in coal power stations just when summer approaching. While the roosters are crowing now leaving the household hens paying the bills on the rise, it seems madness that Labor states 4 now are fast-tracking the power charges over this crazy green energy targets that is starting to break the economy with big power charges on the rise having no plans for gas Daniel Andrews bans. To settle these people down in these Labor states , they and businesses now leaving in droves , must have cheap coal energy while the economy is struggling . Saying this , keep up technology discoveries on renewables for later , but don’t cripple the economy of 60 billion plus aiming for nonsense no purpose only cripple jobs and economy first ith 50%emissions target. I have solar roof technology and like it , not expensive wind power not viable, so don’t penalise the economy and jobs for god sake you feral premiers down south on your mad green idealogy hitting families hard. Lets use coal till new technology is viable and why not Hydo on a wide scale , and Nuclear you mad idiots in SA and Victoria!
Oh Milton, you are obviously confused. I have never spoken of my height on here. Rowy/Razor and the pin head Plumber on the other hand have advised us of their hugeness at 6’4. Wow Lyon’s now bowled 3 good spells all summer. Over the journey your “insights” into cricket along with just about everything else have consistently proven to be off the mark. One swallow does not a summer make.
B,MAN…..think you need to go and have a lie down in a darkened room you’re constant whinging is doing my head in.
Keep up the good work Bassman. The Truth is always a headache for the conservative.
Love that song by The Cufflinks (TRACY) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwv8KNJ0VZg
Better have this one too…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnnuD3uNY8U
My dad has that in his record collection😳
TRACY…one more for U…The Howard government was the highest taxing government of all time. Actually, there have been only 7 yrs in budget history where the tax to GDP ratio has been over 23.5%. AND YES, ALL 7 WERE UNDER LIBERAL GOVERNMENTS.
