Humble servant of the Nation

Mother and child disunion

Here I was all set to knock out a Christmas column full of cheer and bonhomie but life, or more accurately, Daily Life has intervened.

I normally disapprove of intra-media byplays but Fairfax Media’s Daily Life section has become so full of cranky third wave feminism that someone needs to hold it up to the light. Among this waste of ink and kilobyte street corner psychobabble, comes a contribution from self described feminist Polly Dunning who tells her harrowing tale of giving birth to a shame boy. The good news is she’s slowly getting over it.

I’m not allowed to swear anymore, at least not at volume but this is sorely testing my already fragile grip on self-control.

At first blanch this was merely another addition from women who have recently given birth and have come to believe that having done so, they have unlocked the secrets of the universe. But on further reading this is a tale of a woman not just at war with men but also her own male child.

Full column here.

“as I write this there is absolutely no internal pressure on Shorten” (in today’s Oz).

Well what a shame Richo, if you are reading this but you have gotta be wrong OR your people are not talking to you anymore since you have “turned”.. Bill is a nice bloke but HOPELESS. He is not cutting through. He has NOT disproved the TWO big lies that the Liberals were elected on:-
    &
    1. That the carbon tax did NOT destroy the economy…in fact it grew. Electricity is dearer NOW than when the
carbon tax was about. By the way, Direct Action is the Liberal’s REAL carbon tax because it sucks money
from the people, NOT the polluters as Labor’s did. the people,

    2. The debt and deficit scare campaign was a lie. Abbott inherited a AAA credit rating from all agencies,
the 3rd lowest debt in the world and one of only 3 developed economies not to go into recession.

And I do not want to hear that the pizzling surplus Howard left would have saved us from the GFC. Many countries with larger surpluses than Howard left went into recession-we didn’t, because of Rudd’s sound policies on the advice of Treasury. And don’t forget Swan had a loss of revenue of $160billion during the GFC.
    &
Shorten should have used the stellar GFC results to bed down Labor’s economic credentials. He did not do it, has not done it, will never do it. No one knows why. Don’t wanna go there. The debt word is death for Labor even when it is less than the Looters. Chris Bowen came up here to a public meeting and I gave him hell in front of a packed Labor audience-there was a deathly silence as I was hissed at. Well all the others did was stand up and praise him. Rodent has heard the tape! Gross debt is $190billion more than it was under Labor and debt to GDP heading for 19% (as low as 10% under Labor), investment, unemployment and consumer confidence are shot to pieces. Nothing from Bill or Labor as usual. Abbott was at it, with the help of Rupert every day for 6yrs. And good on him. That is how you win from Opposition. Labor needs an attack dog along those lines. It worx…Abbott proved it. If Morrison or Abbott become PM they will chew Bill up with all the old stories about debt, the carbon tax, terrorism, our lost borders, jobsongrowth, the toxic tax, the end of the workd, blah blah blah. Why? Because they are brilliant at staying on message. Shorten knows what the next election will be fought on. Abbott keeps telling him but Shorten has prepared nothing. If you fail to plan Bill you plan to fail.
OK Shorten is ahead in the polls….but in reality he should be 15points ahead. He is still not preferred leader even up against a tart like Malcolm. Bill….please go away.

Well I did say Maddinson was goooorn.

  • Razor says:

    Bassy,
I imagine we won’t hear from you now for awhile. Your cricket comment has had me giggling all afternoon! Well, not all afternoon, in between some natural oysters, a rump and a decent bottle of red or three with Mrs Razor. The Great Grandfather port and short black wasn’t bad either! Did you really educate a generation or two of Australians? Shows how the teachers union in this country has for many years pandered to mediocrity.

    • BASSMAN says:

Please invite me over for a feed. At my last oyster hit I ate 63. BRADMAN:-as I said, I was rong rong rong, egg, face and all that….along with millions of others and the best cricket heads in the media. Who wood have gessd
the Pakis would have given in so easily…great bowling though and Lyon has embarrassed the selectors and the 14yr old buoy who would knot back him for Sidney when arsekd.

      • Razor says:

At restaurant whilst holidaying Bassy and I am happy to break bread with you anytime. I imagine the conversation would be robust but the handshakes genuine.

        • BASSMAN says:

I don’t talk politics outside the blog…too dangerous…hee hee. I am fussy about my bread. Enjoying Lawson’s Settlers Grains at the moment.

SimonT – I didn’t realise Lee Lin Chin was such a little minx.

Mack the Knife – I only just stumbled across your post re The Saints – a good one. I also think parts of the film clip for Stranded were filmed in Inala.

    • Mack the Knife says:

Yep, you are right, around the Balsa st/ Biota st area I think, but the inside of a house with Stranded painted on a wall was up there near Greasy Harry’s. Ah, good times, the R.E. “rent-a crowd” in it’s heyday.

    • Mack the Knife says:

Yeh, no wonder she talks funny, like she’s sucking on a gobstopper.

    • Razor says:

Now you blokes are taking me back to a better time and place! We were a bit rough around the edges but life long friendships developed. Didn’t know what money was. Didn’t know what race was, knew what a bit if rough and tumble was but that only made us stronger for the times to come. A simpler life surrounded by great, hardworking people is how I remember it.

  • Mack the Knife says:

Bassy, your cricket intuition is nearly as bad as some of the statements about the Looters. Good result, bit of a nailbiter.

  • Yvonne says:

Sorry to hear about your son, Bella. Hope he’s up and cycling again soon!

  • Little Johnny says:

Dear Aunt Gwyneth still hasn’t got over the prawn poisoning at xmas Mr Jack but she did tell us she will be playing the flute in the church band in 2017 and likes to practice whenever she can.
