Humble servant of the Nation

Leave our statues alone, pigeons need them

It is often said that Australia is a cultural clone of the United States, albeit ten years behind. That seems to have been whittled down to a neat two days as we furrow our brows and wring our hands over our historical simulacra as the Americans squabble over theirs.

That’s progress, right there.

In the midst of angry debate in the US about whether statues of confederate generals should stay or go, ABC journalist, Stan Grant, wanted the wording of a plaque below a huge image of Captain James Cook amended. Grant’s argument was almost as pointless and futile as actually standing in front of Cook’s statue and quibbling with it.

Before you knew it there was a hail of angry Op-Eds amid visions of tow ropes attached to utes pulling down statues across the nation.

I see Gerard Ridsdale is likely to be even more likely to die in gaol after his latest conviction and sentencing.

Had a thought the other day (must have been drinking). I was pondering my Grandmother Elise, and my belief that she was a German Jew. (Note to self: track down her birth certificate) Under Israel’s Law of Return, any Jew or the children or grandchildren of a Jew is entitled to move to Israel and take up Israeli citizenship.

How does his affect our–I think it’s six now–Jewish members of Parliament given section 44?

Interesting article, smoke, I think the genius Elon Musk is at the forefront of this new development. Volvo too are having a go however a minor setback when a test model failed to see a large white bus! Back to the drawing board. Cheers

Jack, I was enthralled to hear the long-lamented voice of Old Mr Howard giving a gee-up to someone or other. There he was, poking at the dying embers of neoconservatism and cooeeing to the thinning troupe to gather round, again. It’s dead, John! Haven’t you noticed? Those brave Neocons have slunk off to count their coin.
But, I wish him well and hope the recycled Chris Uhlmann remembers to keep a possie for him at the campfire. JHW will enjoy reminiscing there with Tony Abbott, chewing the fat. Round them up, Chris. Keep them fed and watered and out of harm’s way. They deserve their place in the twilight.

Shocker, Mr Insider, surely Hinch knew, “Shame, shame, shame!” “Crossbench senator Derryn Hinch has become the latest potential victim of a worsening citizenship saga after admitting he has links to the United States that could disqualify him.Senator Hinch has admitted he still holds a social security card from when he lived in New York that could mean he is ineligible to sit the Senate.”

Gloomy article from Maurice Newman today.
Precarious situation with NK. Meanwhile Australia seems more interested in bickering over SSM issues and dual citizenship – and citizens battle to cope with rising power bills.

What do you do when your Facebook friends start to die off? (don’t say put up a statue). Flick ’em or keep them around?

    • Dwight says:

If they update their status, I’d worry.

    • Gryzly says:

Keep them for whatever you think is an appropriate amount of time. You will still have the memories in your mind and heart. If you keep them on FB you may get posts from the netherworld (it happens) and you will still be asked to send them birthday wishes etc., I find it more difficult to delete them from my ‘phone.

Lurved the irony in this…. Turnbulls Snowy 2.0 (by the way which will never happen) will use the electrict to pump the water up the hill from guess where? South Australia’s wind farms which the Looters lambast almost daily.
