Humble servant of the Nation

Death becomes our politicians.

A big shout out to Dennis Hof who overcame the severe handicap of being dead to win election in District 36 of the Nevada State Assembly.

District 36 sits inside Nye County, Nevada. The county’s principal city, Pahrump, is a solid hour’s drive east to Las Vegas. It is home to 36,000 Nevadans, wedged on the Nevada-California border and ominously and perhaps auspiciously, Death Valley lies nearby. Pahrump became noteworthy (at least to me) as a part-setting and general den of inequity for the television drama, Get Shorty.

Hof enjoyed his 72nd birthday celebrations three weeks ago in Pahrump in the company of porn star Ron Jeremy, and recently pardoned former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and died the following day.

Death became Dead Dennis. He not only won but won in a landslide. The obvious conclusion is the Democrat candidate, Lesia Romanov, may not have been entirely compelling. But here’s the rub — Hof, in a state of the deepest repose, was seen as a better candidate dead than alive.

The denizens of District 36 were not altogether comfortable casting a vote for a man who owned seven legal brothels.

But dead he was just fine, and the punters came out and voted for him in droves. Dead Dennis received 68 per cent of the vote. Had Still Vaguely in the Vertical Dennis run, it may have gone down to the wire.

What’s next? A dead Abe Lincoln to emerge from his tomb in Springfield Illinois? Dead Thomas Jefferson and dead George Washington to battle it out in Virginia’s sixth district for another shot at the title?

Worse things could happen.

How did this slip through the net at the Australian. Stiglitz telling it like it is. I see dwight on the other side one of the first to try and deny the world renowned distinguished pre-eminent world acclaimed economist. Next he will be saying Stiglitz is some sort of outlier on the economics scene. It is a well known and peer reviewed and accepted position that the over the last 40 years the demise of collective bargaining and attacks on unions by the neo-liberals has been matched by the rise in profit margins, and the share of income increasingly going to profits over wages all while productivity has continued to climb. The only period over the last 40 years in Australia when productivity actually dropped was during the No Work choices period. No Surprises fair dinkum.

    • Milton says:

Old Stiglitz came across as a bit of an applause junky at the Press club. Yet another economist talking about climate change. As always, follow the money.

      • Jean Baptiste says:

Must be getting a bit lonely on that tiny little island Milton? You’re good material though, painting yourself into a sad corner as you do. Applause junky or not, he is right and you’re off with the pixies.

  • SF Groupie says:

Reflecting upon the recent 4 Corners episode about the ABC debacle made me realize how talented Sarah Ferguson is. I always understood that Milne thought he was the smartest guy in the room and that he was always wrong but I presumed Ms Guthrie must have been pretty switched-on. Sf removed all doubt as she let Ms Guthrie in her own words remove all doubt as to how much of a lightweight she was. I can’t believe Spigleman let that happen!

    • Dr. Smith says:

The ABC……mmmmhhh, an example of extreme narcissism doing a show about itself. How embarrassing, couldn’t watch.

      The pain….oh…the pain!

  • Dismayed says:

Multi millions of $$ worth of contracts from the abbott Emissions reduction fund have been cancelled because, well there was No Direct Action. They did not do anything. This at a time the coalition are talking about wasting more Taxpayer money on this ridiculous “policy”. No surprises. Fair dinkum.

  • Boadicea says:

Haha. I was watching ABC 4 Kids with my 2yr old grandson yesterday. And there was “chicken little”! The one you say lives in oaky oaks, Dismal.
Well that clears up what TV you watch, Dismal 🤣

    • Dismayed says:

Your obsessions with me continues. Having had kids of my own I did actually see the odd kids show and read to my children every chance I had. Stop projecting your own problems onto others.

  • Bella says:

The NRA tells doctors to “stay in their lane” over gun rights.
So they are posting bloody pictures of ‘their lane’ & more power to them I say.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

What the NRA really means is this Bella.
*This is a free enterprise nation, more guns means more money for the manufacturers and more work for the working stiffs. More guns means more work for Doctors and nurses. Whats not to like?”

  • Huger Unson says:

I understand, Jack, that some conditions of the bottom are exceedingly painful, but, for the sake of decorum, best reported as “back pain”. Though, I’ve been called a pain in the arse.

Belt me about the Bonce with a dozen Bean Bags, Mr Insider as we see: “Two-time Democratic Presidential candidate HILARY CLINTON will mount a third bid for the White House, longtime Clinton adviser Mark Penn wrote in an op-ed published Sunday by The Wall Street Journal, predicting that the former first lady and secretary of state is readying a “Hillary 4.0″ campaign for 2020”. Has this woman no shame!
This could well be a rerun of 2016 when the USA votes in 2020.

    • Penny says:

Maybe Razor, but Scott Morrison and Matthew Guy turning up at Pellegrini’s today has certainly persuaded a lot of my Melbourne friends to vote against Liberal or go for Independent /Green candidates if they can’t actually stomach voting for Labor. Using Sisto’s death for a political stunt was one of the worst and offensive political stunts I’ve seen in a long time…

      • Razor says:

Is that like Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard turning up at every flood and cyclone scene in Qld Penny. Your pink slip is showing again. It’s the burbs where its fought. Middle iof Melbourne means jack shit. By the way he would have been criticised if he hadn’t attended.

        • Penny says:

No he wouldn’t have been criticized Razor, he had probably never heard, nor cared about Pelligrinis before this event. He would have earned far more respect if he had just kept to the statement he made on Friday. As for Bill Shorten turning up he didn’t have a media contingent with him, he made a private visit to sign the condolences book and he also k ew Sisto personally.
I get tired of you referring to me showing my pink slip Razor as I get tired of you always shoving your right wing beliefs without ever looking at issues even handedly. You even criticized the police handling of the very difficult situation they had to deal with. You seem to have a thing about Victorian police and you coukdn’t resist having a dig, which if I may be so bold to say was totally inappropriate.
Maybe when all the analysis and political posturing is over, you can tell us how you would have handled it and then pass on this advice to the various decision makers.

        • John O'Hagan says:

We should probably just do away with elections in urban and rural seats, then, seeing as you reckon they don’t count anyway. Think of the savings.

      • Bella says:

        Wasn’t it excruciatingly obvious Penny?
Every time ScoMo thinks he’s garnering votes, he’s losing more ground. Good, it’s past time we’re rid of the tossers.

      • Carl on the Coast says:

Bill Shorten turned up as well.

        • Penny says:

He quietly went in on the Saturday to sign the condolences book and I might add not with a huge press contingent in tow. He also knew Sisto, as did a lot of state politicians because Pelligrinis is just down from the Parliament. It has since been revealed however that Matthew Guy had never spoken to either of the owners, so this was a political stunt was n the worst possible way.
Umm Razor not quite sure what you mean by it’s the ‘burbs where the votes are important. Not many people actually live in the middle of Melbourne, but even though most people live in the ‘burbs as you call them, they still say they come from Melbourne or if you live in the country you come from Victoria. I know people who live in the suburbs of Brisbane…..where do they say they live?….Brisbane.
          So your point is irrelevant.
As for the pink slip showing, if you leaned any further to the right, you’d lose your sense of balance….oh wait

  • Henry Donald J Blofeld says:

What a great talent he was, Mr. Insider as we see Stan Lee, Marvel Comics writer, creator of the Avengers and X-Men, dies age 95. He was down to his last $50 Milion at the time if death. May he RIP.

Big tax cuts coming for those earning the most. Over $5 Billion wasted on water in the last 5 years according to the Auditor General. over $15 Billion in Drought Relief, subsidies, concession and welfare handouts to farmers with no requirement to improve farm management or planning on top of their tax free savings accounts no other citizen can access. The coalition now cut funding to the poorest in the nation. Worst government and supporters of a government in this nations history. No Surprises. Fair dinkum. the Pastor PM is an FN drongo. Too right.

    • Carl on the Coast says:

Don’t get your knickers in a knot, try and keep up Dismayed. The government has listened to the people and acted accordingly. Just like all good governments should.
      https://www.sbs.com.au/…/scott-morrison-reverses-foodbank-funding-cut-after-public…

      • Dismayed says:

carl a couple of hundred thousand dollars given via a triple back flip does NOT fix the issue. It is another knee jerk reaction made on the run to paper over the cracks and out right lack of morals by this government . Only a sycophant of your epic proportions would think this government is “good” This is clearly the Worst government this Nation has ever seen. Wake up and stop embarrassing yourself carl.

      • Jean Baptiste says:

Face facts Carl, it was the lousy mongrels intent and they were forced to back down.

They are owned by the uber rich and it shows.

        • Carl on the Coast says:

Oh you have zero credibility when it comes to judging “lousy mongrels” JB. Especially given the regular self-guffawing, ebullient, lighthearted, frivolity you regularly apply to your DPRK’s “Kimmie”. The absence of even the slightest admonishment indicates you’re seemingly oblivious to the desperately wretched circumstances many of his country’s people are subjected to.

Or is it just you’re weird, warped sense of humour at the expense of others me old mate?

          • Jean Baptiste says:

Oh great attempt to deflect away from your losing hand Carl. They are indefensibly “lousy mongrels.”
Kimmie reads your posts. He texts “Tell Carl he is a silly old bugger but we invite him to NK to see for himself.”
(Some expressions I wish hadn’t taught him.)

    • Bella says:

It now appears the public backlash has changed their nasty minds.
Wouldn’t want to lose an election over this kind of ugly exposure now would they.

      • Penny says:

Exactly Bella…indeed it is Carl who hasn’t picked up on the fact that the PM reversed his decision not because he was listening to the people, but that once again they screwed up with making a terrible decision and having to backtrack quickly….

        • Carl on the Coast says:

If the PM wasn’t listening to the people Penny, as you intimate, but simply realised his government had erred and then corrected their misstep without external prompting, then that surely is an indication of good administration.

          • Jean Baptiste says:

            Nah, nonsense. cacked his daks.

          • Bella says:

Oh dear mate, I do worry about you.
“an indication of good administration” is absolutely NOT what went down here.
These jerks hate the poor people of our society & I do mean HATE.
Hate paying taxes to assist them & hate increasing funding to any services fundamental to their basic wellbeing & given another term in control they will strip these organisations to bare bones in quick time.
Please wake-up to the frauds Carl.
            Regards, Bella
