Humble servant of the Nation

The Corby circus keeps rolling on

Let’s face it, it’s been a tough week. What we need now is an issue that will unify the nation. Happily we have one at hand, Australia’s pathological obsession with Schapelle Corby.

Corby is set to be deported from Indonesia in the coming days. She will be put on a burner and returned to the only place she would regard as worse than Bali’s Kerobokan Prison — Australia.

Ultimately Corby served nine years in Kerobokan and after being released in February 2014 has served a closely watched period of parole in Bali for the last three years.

Back in March 2005 when Corby was first convicted and sentenced, it was akin to the lunar landing, people crowding around televisions watching the verdict, the media going the full three ring circus routine. While some of the hysteria has subsided, it is set to ratchet up again as Corby prepares to set foot in Australia for the first time in almost 14 years.

#covfefe Jack, is that a reverse ferret or the ricin taking hold?

  • Wissendorf says:

An offender armed with a machine gun murders a Queensland policeman in cold blood, and the lead story on Ch 9 & 7 was where Schapelle Corby isn’t. Had the gunman been a Muslim, the news and analysis would have gone on for days. I think the media have failed the public here. I think Editors are failing to measure public interest, and public need-to-know, and are moving in favour of soft stories with no real content, that are easy to gather. If I owned those TV stations, a few people would be looking for work today. No respect at all for the story, or the reader/listener/viewer. Where did this guy buy a machine gun? What contacts did he have? Why were the police pursuing him?

    Too much left untold.

I used to be indecisive but now am not so sure.

    Henry Blofeld Esq,

    Dear Henry,
Attached for your consideration and comment is an article which appears to indicate that Donald Trump is more a symptom than a saviour. Before instinctively deploying your knee jerk defensive victim reaction you should appreciate the fact that the author is American born and raised.

Top of t’morning to yers Henry.

PS. I see you have fallen behind in your fees again Henry. You are not an easy student but I feel you are worth persevering with, however you must express all the gratitude required by meeting your financial obligations forthwith. The following is compulsory reading which will feature considerably in the end of semester exams.
    Hop to it boy!

Bless you Mr Baptise, whilst I respect your opinions I may not always agree with them and vice versa. On the matter of POTUS Trump we are at loggerheads and I suspect that’s where we shall stay, as youth you and dear Carl on AGW! I do pride myself in thinking “outside the square”. May your posts be fruitful and many and may I say always enjoyed by me. Cheers. P.S. that “norty” Kimmie let off another “sparkler” yesterday, he sure does want to get his wish to “die in bed” doesn’t he mmm

Hi JTI it’s Bella here. Hey I’ve been trying to comment since I got back from the US & Canada last Sat but nothing gets up so have they gone to spam as you said I do or have I been blocked? Regards, Bella

Thanks guys. Just got in to Melbourne after the longest haul I’ve ever done. Included a 12hr stopover in Zurich. Brain-dead, waiting on Hobart flight.
Will take a couple of days to recover, particularly from the appalling dinner that Qantas dished up last night. Made Swiss Air seem like a 3* Michelin restaurant. They must be cost cutting like crazy. But I’ll be back in the chariot, fighting fit!!!! 🙂

    • Henry Blofeld says:

Lovely to see you back Boadicea, cheers.

    • Razor says:

      Welcome home Boa!

    • Bella says:

      Testing…..
Me too Boadicea. Canada & Alaska was absolutely sublime.
      Shapelle’s been released…The End.

And, well . . . just because. Thanks, Jack for your forbearance:

In difficulty, this piece is dialled up to 11. To translate it into other art forms, it is The Mona Lisa squared; it is the Taj Mahal built sideways; it is the entire works of Shakespeare rendered in Klingon. You cannot appreciate how difficult something like this is until you’ve picked up a musical instrument.

Just had another birthday. Boss-lady cracked a bottle of 12-year-old Dimple in celebration and gave me the bottle as a present. Very nice.

Also just booked on to do the Kokoda Track again. I wrote to a mate who’s a psychologist and asked him if “shit-for-brains” is a genuine psychiatric condition.

He laughed . . . but he didn’t say “no”.

Thursday night footy again this week. Don’t forget to tip. I rushed in early to tip Port to do Hawthorne. I liked the style of Hawks play a few weeks ago, but I don’t like it now. Cats to do the Crows. Last time Adelaide won at Kardinia Jesus was playing fullback for Damascus. I think it was back in 2003. Mention in Despatches for the Blues effort last weekend. They nearly pulled the rabbit out of the hat.

    • Jack The Insider says:

Thank you Wiss. I would have forgotten. Get your tips in today or tomorrow before 7:30.
