Humble servant of the Nation

Politicians sucking hard in our living rooms

The week in Australian federal politics was headlined by the triumphant return of ‘Bad’ Malcolm Turnbull.

Australians had become accustomed to the pinkie-extended punctilios of Pleasant Malcolm and it has become clear they don’t much care for them.

So with nothing left to lose, Bad Malcolm got a run and delivered a withering character assessment of the Opposition leader. It was a terrific spray, no doubt, so full of harsh burns Bill Shorten may well still be plastering himself in aloe vera.

Bad Malcolm left his best line to last: “This sycophant, blowing hard in the House of Representatives, sucking hard in the living rooms of Melbourne — what a hypocrite.”

Understandably, lovers of the pugilistic arts weren’t about to get too excited. Should the People’s House ever become the House of Stoush with ‘Truffles’ Turnbull and ‘Wee Billy’ Shorten coming to blows, it would make last week’s Danny Green-Anthony Mundine fight look like the Thriller in Manilla.

Today we see the coalition legitimising toxic divisive bigoted racist and just plan crazy one nation “policy”. Shame on the coalition and its supporters for legitimising such a disgraceful toxic group of people. Lying to the Nation is not enough the coalition have decided to deliberately further divide the Nation. Hang your heads in shame coalition supporters.

Further to our previous, just back from the local hospital JB (a regular occurrence these days) and I took a few minutes out to have a look at that “Robertscribbler” methane link you posted with your covering comment.

My present medico/carer involvement, especially coupled with the various confronting AGW posts you offer from time to time, and especially this current one, does cause one to reflect and realise that life is indeed precious. So I think we may be on the same planet in that respect. But I also think one should not allow oneself to become too maudlin over whatever negative predicament life presents. I think it’s important for one to at least attempt to create an upside to any downside in our existence. This may explain why you tend to view my occasional ambivalent responses as bordering on frivolity.

But back to your latest link and its various illustrations. In summary, I have to say those Ruskies sure can draw pretty pictures. The one that immediately caught my eye (and I suppose it’s understandable given my intro) was the black and grey print of the Ivashkina Lagoon. It has an uncanny likeness to an ultrasound image of a person with one kidney. The ‘lungs’ don’t look too flash either. And of course the vibrant geothermal hot spots picture is a dead-ringer for one of the latest colour scheme haute couture fashion prints for a woman’s Gucci outfit.

And finally, I’m not quite sure what to make of the feedback comment by ‘Egor The Wonder Dog’. A bit scary for mine; I sure wouldn’t want the grandkids to be reading that sort of stuff before bedtime.

Did you happen to read it JB?

Anyway, hope the above puts me drift into some perspective JB. All the best me old mate.

  • BASSMAN says:

Reminiscent of ‘children overboard’ and the Godwin Grech debacle, Turnbull ignored confidential public service advice via email that South Australia’s renewable energy target was not the cause of their blackouts. Turnbull has lied to the Australian people by politicising South Australia’s energy misfortune. Could emails haunt him a second time and lead to his downfall? This mob will stop at nothing.

Having great fun watching all of the climate denialists put up their arguments. It really is beyond belief the crap they are coming up with. Yesterday it was reported Australia was the hottest place in the world. When it is 47 outside those with their heads in the sand would tell you it is raining.

    • Henry Blofeld says:

This is a BaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaD government BASSMAN. Ex ousted PM Tony Abbott had it right when he was defending Coal Fired Power Stations. Now look what’s happened as they are closed down. Lets reopen the old ones pronto and build new ones using the latest technology. Coal Mines galore up in QLD my good man. Coal is not a dirty word!

    • Razor says:

Hottest since the 1800’s apparently. But hang on !

    • Lou oTO says:

Nothing like overreach Bassy, you’re a past master at it.

Australia hottest place in the world? No shit, it happens this time every year. The Northern Hemisphere is in winter, no competition from Antartica, NZ or the pacific floating islands, nor South Africa or the skinny part of South America. It’s a no contest. We’re world champions of being the hottest in Summer.

As for the other season, I’d recon Dubai and the Sahara might give us a run for our hotness.

It is really beyond belief the crap you come up with.

Don’t start me on South Australia, a self made train wreck on energy capability. God knows how they’ll build the new canoes, let alone keep the miners in town.

      • Lou oTOD says:

Whoever pinched the “D” for Dunny off my nomenclature, shame on you. In the heat of summer, everyone knows the Dunny is a most productive source of energy, and inspiration even if demanding brevity. It has a certain air about it, that’s for sure.

        • Jean Baptiste says:

Funny, after saying “it is unbelievable the crap you come up with”. Your Dunny is productive alright Lou, but it’s still poo.

      • Razor says:

        Lou,
        A couple of quotes from the AEMO report on SA that a couple on here either haven’t read or tried to ignore;

AEMO’s public findings, after months of study, are that the “growing proportion” of renewables is leading to longer periods of low availability of power and “lower resilience to extreme events”. The third report highlights measures required to change how “the power system responds to extreme events”.

    • smoke says:

      tic toc tic toc

    • Bella says:

Yes Bassman, the reckless irresponsibility of this government’s stance on energy is breathtaking & it’s now been proven that Turnbull not only ignored that advice but consciously repeated the Libs pre-prepared misinformation over & over so they could brainwash the weak public into believing renewables caused SA’s blackouts.

So they have LIED in order to continue to damage the planet.

It is long past time we call out this fraud for what it is because it is bloody criminal behavior and is not in the national interest so am I right that the GG has cause to remove them from office?

To be brutally honest I’m a bit stunned that various very literate seniors comments on this contentious thread, appear to be almost delighted that they’ll be long gone before the rest of us so the subject is wasting their time. So you don’t believe in CC, you keep crossing a ballot paper for the cons who don’t believe in climate change then you slam ninety percent of scientists who’s data is proof that CC is happening NOW.

Try to imagine you are wrong. There is no planet B for anyone left here after you get out. I’d love to be wrong but the science is too strong.
      Regards, Bella

      • Razor says:

If you read my 8.05am post it would appear the PM was not lying at all.

      • BASSMAN says:

…..bbbbbbbbbuyt the WORST aspect of Turnbull’s lies is THAT HE DOES NOT BELIEVE HIS OWN WORDS. He is an ardent believer in global warming, a carbon tax and renewable energy. For Christ’s sake all this has changed since the hard right have grabbed him by the shorts. And who is presently having more panels put on his roof and electricity storage batteries in his house…….Mr Harbourside Mansions of course.

        • Bella says:

I’m sure you are absolutely right about Turnoballs mate but only he can decide if he can draw a line under flailing, climate dumb Malcolm or man-up & tell Australia he’s no longer allowing his right-wing party extremists to dictate terms.
Oh what a nice change that would be Bman! Can you imagine it, for even one day, the Fibnats do something IN the national interest instead of the usual modus operandi.
          Regards, Bella

        • Razor says:

          Bassy,
So you now agree he didn’t lie?

  • jack says:

a comment on the royal commission and the catholic church which caught my eye

I think we can all agree this was just a small minority of an otherwise peaceful religion. They likely had a mental illness and committed these acts because they felt marginalised. There’s absolutely no need for a knee-jerk reaction. The church as a whole is not to blame and should not reform its way. Clearly the real victims are other priests who will now fear reprisals from the general public. To all those priests out there, #illpraywithyou.

    • Razor says:

To say I am dumbfound is an understatement Jack.

    • Mac says:

“There’s absolutely no need for a knee-jerk reaction. The church as a whole is not to blame and should not reform its way.”

Jack, Thomas Doyle would disagree. He’s been in a position where he would probably know. The Religion and Ethics report covers the subject well.

Tell you what, jack, the day the entire Christian religion is blamed for pedophilia, has political parties dedicated to banning its practices, symbols and places of worship and deporting its members, the day anyone from majority-Christian countries is subject to travel bans, profiling and interrogation, and the day anti-pedophilia groups are walking into churches and gunning down the congregation, I’ll get right down on my knees and pray with them.

Meanwhile in the real world, we have a RC into a small number of clerical orders where up to 40% were pedophiles. Whoever wrote that quote of yours is trying to score cheap and nasty points off the dire misfortunes of others. I realise the author thinks of themselves as quite a wit, and they are half right.

….yes, you are correct about us being an island nation…and BECAUSE we are so big and so far away from everybody there is only ONE way to defend out nation. Build a bank of nuclear-armed Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles across the top of Australia with a red button in Canberra. NOBODY WILL DARE COME NEAR US.
Why do you think we have had peace for so long? ICBM’s held by Russia/USA. If mad nations like Korea can have them well we should as well to save our own arses.

  • Rodent says:

Just picked up an article in the Murdock Press saying yes it is bloody hot,
It goes saying , 1896 when coal -fire power stations had only been in existence for 14 years , a summer heat wave described as the “blast furnace” swept accross Australia from east to west lasting weeks . the eventual death toll was 437 in eastern states . Newspaper reports shown that Bourke reached 47,9 Celcius on 3 days straight and it was more then 43 C 18 days straight . The temperature remained at, or over 38.9 C for 24 days. Makes think now what Dorothea Mackellar was all about in our sunburnt country poem. Looking forward to my Figi trip when the monsoons are over, plus now the cyclones have disappeared , now in decline needing extra ocean heat . Think I will cancel our Mongolia minus 50c , too cold , will leave it for the salmon to enjoy.

  • Rodent says:

“Wow”!,..Haven’t they all come out now from the sheltereing heats suddenly hitting us with Tassie residents the Murdock Press saying, summer has not come with snow recorded , Melbourne saying not the hottest summer on record , I am going to Mongolia where minus 50 may be a better option with the northern hemisphere cooling more every year . The blizzards there more intense , Europe and North america critical transport shut downs , lakes freezing longer every year while everyone here jumping around that suddenly the heat is disturbing us with the aboriginal elders laughing saying we are sooks forgetting February1960 . 5 days in a row , temperatures hit 100 F plus with highest 122 F around 47 C conversion . 1996 47.5 C was records when bushfires burnt out the Blue Mts ,all on fire in NSW and VIC , Ash Wednesday reached 47 C ,173 died then . Now we getting our climate change that heat has returned again in cycles as Don Saunders FOXTELL saying 47s C returning with Bourke getting their usual 48 degrees. Penrith 47 degrees . It is all over the place and as Judith Curry says , the climate is “so complex ” that we can’t draw full conclusion with the sun going through changes now altering temperature with gas clouds now found . What a global mess .

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Theres definitely something desperately wrong with you Rodent. And you’re becoming ever more desperate.
Never mind the weather events in recorded history, we are experiencing 14 of the hottest YEARS ever recorded in a space of 15 years. You can back to 1963 or 1963 BC if you like, the permafrost didn’t thaw then, and Greenland was not turning into a giant slushie as it is right now.
Now try to think, just try, in spite of the dramatic cold weather events happening around the world we are still experiencing a hotter planet every year than has ever been recorded. And we are seeing climatic changes in mere decades that took thousands of years to happen pre industrial revolution.
First rule when you’ve dug yourself into a hole Rodent.

      Stop digging.
