A big shout out to Dennis Hof who overcame the severe handicap of being dead to win election in District 36 of the Nevada State Assembly.
District 36 sits inside Nye County, Nevada. The county’s principal city, Pahrump, is a solid hour’s drive east to Las Vegas. It is home to 36,000 Nevadans, wedged on the Nevada-California border and ominously and perhaps auspiciously, Death Valley lies nearby. Pahrump became noteworthy (at least to me) as a part-setting and general den of inequity for the television drama, Get Shorty.
Hof enjoyed his 72nd birthday celebrations three weeks ago in Pahrump in the company of porn star Ron Jeremy, and recently pardoned former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and died the following day.
Death became Dead Dennis. He not only won but won in a landslide. The obvious conclusion is the Democrat candidate, Lesia Romanov, may not have been entirely compelling. But here’s the rub — Hof, in a state of the deepest repose, was seen as a better candidate dead than alive.
The denizens of District 36 were not altogether comfortable casting a vote for a man who owned seven legal brothels.
But dead he was just fine, and the punters came out and voted for him in droves. Dead Dennis received 68 per cent of the vote. Had Still Vaguely in the Vertical Dennis run, it may have gone down to the wire.
What’s next? A dead Abe Lincoln to emerge from his tomb in Springfield Illinois? Dead Thomas Jefferson and dead George Washington to battle it out in Virginia’s sixth district for another shot at the title?
Worse things could happen.

“a substantial fraction of corporate profits really represents rewards to monopoly power, not returns on investment — and cutting taxes on monopoly profits is a pure giveaway, offering no reason to invest or hire.”

For those worried about the property destroying negative gearing reforms take heart from 1987. Two years after Hawke put them in he had to pull them. The same will happen this time. Those who forget the past are bound to relive it!
those that recreate the past to suit their own falsehoods and dishonesty offer no value to society.
razor you are incapable of presenting facts.

It is in the Australian so it must be fact. The supporting evidence is clear. razor continues to run a dishonest bleating campaign as he does on most issues. No surprises Baa baa. Fair Dinkum. That’ll do pig, that’ll do.
Lets forget Newscorp and Fairfax are both Majority shareholders in the Real Estate spruiking business. Each hysterical news piece should be accompanied by the disclaimer noting as much.
What a lie….do you EVER do any reading? Turnbull warned Perth residents that a 6 per cent fall in prices in 2016 would be nothing compared to what would happen if Labor got its way. Since then, Perth prices have edged down another 6 per cent and in Sydney average home prices are down $90,000-$100,000-under whose watch? The Liberals of course!
Another fact is that we actually have experienced a life without negative gearing which occurred in the mid-to-late 1980s characterised by another huge Liberal lie. Supporters of the tax perk claim it led to disaster, saying landlords went on “strike” which in turn drove up rents in every nook and cranny.
Sadly for those who mount this argument, it’s just not true. Rents rose in only Sydney and Perth but were steady in Brisbane, Hobart and Adelaide while they actually fell in Melbourne. There was no extraordinary change in house prices through the period. In Sydney they jumped by 43 per cent, in Perth by about a third, by 12 per cent in Brisbane and by just 9 per cent in Adelaide. But the lie persisted!
I say Jack, I saw your Green paper in the other place and noted there appeared to be nothing positive in it about collectively sipping environmentally friendly latte on the sidewalk of insanity. As you know, in the normal course of events, a White paper should follow at some stage for further discussion and debate. However, it seems quite unnecessary in this instance.
cotc when you go to a cafe what do you order? A weak herbal tea probably or do you have a coffee? if so is it a flat white , cappa? latte? You and a few others efforts here to try and put people down for ordering a coffee off the menu highlights just how ridiculous you are. No surprises. Fair dinkum.
Are these the sort of Greens we should be voting for? Can you imagine if it was a staffer for a Coalition MP? The Greens have been without media scrutiny for far too long. They are dangerous fringe dwellers. Their policies would literally force Australia back into the dark ages and yet no media outcry! Now it appears not only are they misogynistic, support domestic violence and sexual assault but child porn is acceptable as well.

Victoria votes this Saturday, Mr. Insider and I would expect current Premier Daniel Andrews would start as Favourite.
Favourite certainly but an upset remains a possibility.
Trump has really ramped up the drone strikes in Yemen, and his Saudi mate told him five times “I didn’t know about the murder” which is good enough for The Donald in spite of what the CIA says.
The Saudis have got you by the short and curlies Donald. Weren’t you going to find out for us who was really behind the 911 attacks? Ha, you joke.

So after surviving four games last week in the Over 60’s National cricket championships around Penrith, I went along to Manuka this afternoon to watch a couple of sessions of cricket by players who could actually run, not requiring latherings of horse rub or having their Achilles tendons reconnected. Sheffield Shield with maybe ten times the usual crowd in the usual capitals (I guestimate about 300), and free at the gate. Two centurions, the remaining stars of the Australian test team (Starc, Lyon, Cummins, Hazlewood) plus a few stragglers from Queensland. Nice to watch without any bullshit, idiotic music or Pavlovian cues for the crowd to make fools of themselves. Just really high-quality cricket.
Top work, TV. Bet you’re feeling a few aches.
A lot better than this time last week. That horse gunk is magic!
Glad to hear that. More horse gunk.
Do you refer to Rapigel? It’s really something and it works fast. Some pharmacies will sell it over the counter, others want the name of your horse! 🐎
