Humble servant of the Nation

What you see is what you get with Trump

Regardless of what you think about Donald Trump he does exactly what it says on his tin.

That’s not to say what is in the tin is especially nourishing. Personally I would not like to be sitting down for a steaming bowl of Trump every day for the next four years. The Americans voted him in and it’s their lot now.

But what is surprising is how surprised the US media is whenever Trump makes a policy announcement.

First we had the immigration bans. The US media went into a profound almost anaphylactic shock over that one. Trump had promised it and he made good on his pledge.

Since Trump concluded his European tour WaPo, The NY Times, Politico, the New Yorker and The Atlantic among many others have reported almost breathlessly in musings of the “will he, won’t he?” type regarding the Paris Accord.

Oh Dismayed. What are we going to do with you and your lack of comprehension?
I make a comment about your abusing a fellow blogger in the last blog – fwit I seem to recall – and you launch into a tirade of abuse about my agreeing or disagreeing with your content and how superior you are in said area.
I despair – I am starting to think Peppa Pig is to complex for you.
Do you think there is something deep down that is bothering you – did your mother have a lot of trouble potty training you?
We can explore this in greater detail over the coming weeks if you like.
As an alternative, does propaganda central offer help in this area or should we crowd fund to get you some quality assistance?

    • Henry Blofeld says:

Poor Dismayed , JackSprat, sadly hopelessly out of touch with reality and lacking any manners whatsoever.

    • Jean Baptiste says:

Well JackSprat I have to say I got a lot of respect for a fella who comes right out and calls a “fwit” a “fwit” . Aint necessarily overloaded with decorum and politeness I will allow, but it’s straight shootin’ I reckon, and a stand out sort of case for what we hold most dear to our patriotic hearts, the notion of free speech.
Having said that I reckon that Dismayed fellow ought to cut some slack for the sensibilities of an old joskin likes of yourself whose all kind of hung up so late in life on this Peppa Pig. Possible the grandkids have moved on and yer yearning for some legitimate excuse to be fooling around with ol Peppa?
Course you are, we all got our little foibles.
No cause to be embarrassed, you knock yourself out now.

Frank Zappa was talking about ‘The Somewhat United States of America’ fifty years ago. That such an uncomfortable alliance has still turned up the biggest economy, most powerful military and loudest voice in international affairs is pretty amazing, really.

Of course (and please, all the PC gods, forgive me for the blasphemy I am about to spew), most of that strength was built and consolidated in an era where women were safely ensconced in the kitchen or the bedroom and the darkies were in their proper place serving cold drinks on the patio.

Whether the place can survive real democracy still remains to be seen.

Regardless of what he says/does the man is totally unfit for public office.
Australia v New Zealand in the cricket and Oz just stuffed a run out, NZ 67/1 after 9 overs.

    • Jack The Insider says:

Ooh, cricket. Thanks for the reminder.

Luckily it was rained off, bowling was dismal.

        • Jack The Insider says:

Batting wasn’t looking flash either. Hazelwood the stand out but by gee, the rest of them wer bowling sone real garbage. Camera switched to Smith after a particularly delicious half tracker was dispatched and he was doing a bit of swearing.

I will believe that Global Warming is a concern to all when I see all those gas guzzling, suburban based 4WD’s disappear off the road – especially in the inner city.
I have the misfortune of driving in peak hour traffic once a week and the size of the cars carrying just one person are enormous.
It’s an OPP – Other Person’s Problem. As long as somebody else pays the price it is fine – nothing different with every other trendy issue emanating from the inner city and Canberra based magic pudding believing lefties whose vote is so coveted by Labor at the expense of their traditional voters whose livelihood is just collateral damage.
There were many comments after the Paris accord that many world leaders succumbed to Chinese demands just to get them on board at the expense of their own industrial base – hence Trump’s reaction.
Anybody know what “Lowering carbon dioxide intensity (carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP) by 60 to 65 percent from the 2005 level” means?

    • Jean Baptiste says:

You mean the nations that have “exported” their polluting industries to China and are the end users of Chinese manufactured products? And don’t want to pay more for Chinese products?

  • Jean Baptiste says:

Too early. The biggie is the promise that he will make America great again.
    Good luck with that America.

What about that Emmanuel Macron chappie Mr Baptiste, he’s be on the World stage 2 minutes and is strutting around like a bloody Rooster handing out advice hand over fist. His first job is to fix up France after that Socialist chappie Hollande cocked it all up! Cheers my dear fellow. P.S. no doubt you are cheesed off at POTUS Trump’s announcement today re the Paris Climate Agreement!

    Lou
Re your last post re time outs.
I have been using the Oz on line for a long time now and never had a problem.
Possible that it is a localised problem.

    • Milton says:

No, JS I read that Lou was sober and there is no excuse for that. I’ve no doubt that that condition would be deleterious to his culinary creations. He should lift his game and stop wasting his time on my ….

      • Jean Baptiste says:

        on your ?

      • Lou oTOD says:

Ok Milton, I had a rare spell off the bottle, but it was before lunchtime you lush.

I said you weren’t making it hard for me, so don’t. Tried a medium rare sliced grass fed Scotch Fillet of Cowra beef the same night, went over like a lead balloon with the bride. I was just trying to keep her iron count up, but I think she heard me saying you need to do more ironing. Now I have promised a mushroom Risotto, nothing erotic in that. Instead of being chained to the bed, looks like chained to the stove is the go.

        • Milton says:

I’ve been going through a bit of a risotto phase, Lou. Very adaptable and easy. Prawns, chicken, ham, mushrooms, asparagus or whatever; very filling and economic. But i’m not a slave to stirring it.

    • Lou oTOD says:

You mean localised to one iPad in the household of six devices JS? Don’t think even Rupert could be that discretionary.

  • Uncle Quentin says:

The idea that Trump supporters are mainly disgruntled American Blue Collar workers is not the whole story. Interviews with supporters at his rallies reveal that many of them are middle class, who own their own business. The Petit Bourgeois, in other words the same that are the most enthusiastic supporters here of Tony Abbott and Pauline Hansen, the most conservative willfully ignorant regressives in the political spectrum.

Of course the Democrats have done themselves no favours in recent years trying to court the upwardly mobile instead of their traditional base..

    • JackSprat says:

Not the deep thinking, Latte drinking inner city 4wd drivers – just those who are working their butts off to make a living, educate their kids and pay their taxes to support the trendy artistic crowd who have never did a day’s work on their lives except when they need to lobby the government for more handouts?

      • Jean Baptiste says:

Crikey, I declare I never seen so many clichés strung together in a single sentence before.

      • Uncle Quentin says:

If you run a cafe or news agency or small business its not a job its a life style. Yes you work hard, yes you don’t make a fortune at it; though there a plenty of stories around about couples who have worked their arse off for 10 years as cleaners and have got enough out of it to invest or buy a less exacting business and good on them too.

However if you are working your arse off and not making it big, or your world is your cafe or shop, you are likely to be suspicious of those you think might be getting a free ride, equally you are going to be more narrow minded. Typical Jones and Hadley listeners and Abbott supporters.

Their are 10 job seekers for every job, if you are over 50 forget it, if you are young you don’t have enough “experience” , so spare this claptrap about lobbying the government for “handouts”.

That American Dream, Jack, will start to look the old Psychiatrist’s Club if the States drift apart.
If memory serves, Dr Gonzo & The Attorney found what remained of that building – burned to the ground.

    • Jack The Insider says:

It was in North Las Vegas if memory serves me, HU. The phrase ‘back door beauty,’ also rings a bell.

  • Henry Blofeld says:

Spot on Mr Insider, POTUS Trump does exactly as he says he will. He’s not a Politician as we know them and whom so many voters are sick and tired of, saying one thing to get elected then doing the opposite, like the despised Abbott. POTUS Trump does continue to do as he said he would before he won the US election, Mr Insider, as we read today re one of his Election Campaign platforms: ” President Donald Trump has announced the United States is withdrawing from the 2015 Paris climate agreement, saying the deal is “less about the climate and more about other countries gaining an advantage over the United States”. Go hard Donald you magnificent bastard!

Predictable decision, Rhys. What it does, almost instantenously, is diminish US authority around the world.

      • The Bow-Legged Swantoon says:

Does it really? I thought American authority was based on dollars and guns – and they still have more of those than almost everyone else put together.

      • Milton says:

Is that a bad thing, Jack? Who voted for US authority? I think the US getting back on top of their deficit would go a way to improving their strength, if not authority.

      • jack says:

not sure how being in the Paris accord give the US any more authority and being out diminishes same.

like kyoto it is just a trick of smoke and mirrors.

you might be right about china’s gdp, but no-one really knows.

what we do know is that the regions tell lies to beijing and beijing tells lies to us.

      • Rhys Needham says:

Even Macron with France in its currently weakened state is delighting in extracting the Michel from it all.

      • John O'Hagan says:

Oh, I don’t know, Jack. There are exactly two other countries that didn’t sign the Paris agreement, and it doesn’t seem to done their standing in the world any harm at all. Nope, Nicaragua and Syria are doing just fine.
