Humble servant of the Nation

What you see is what you get with Trump

Regardless of what you think about Donald Trump he does exactly what it says on his tin.

That’s not to say what is in the tin is especially nourishing. Personally I would not like to be sitting down for a steaming bowl of Trump every day for the next four years. The Americans voted him in and it’s their lot now.

But what is surprising is how surprised the US media is whenever Trump makes a policy announcement.

First we had the immigration bans. The US media went into a profound almost anaphylactic shock over that one. Trump had promised it and he made good on his pledge.

Since Trump concluded his European tour WaPo, The NY Times, Politico, the New Yorker and The Atlantic among many others have reported almost breathlessly in musings of the “will he, won’t he?” type regarding the Paris Accord.

Christ I’ve been in FNQ too long. It’s still a balmy 16 degrees here and I’m in tracky daks and a sweatshirt. I think an average Wisconsin winter would cripple me now.

    • Wissendorf says:

Happily Wisconsin summer is a different proposition Dwight. I leave for the US in 2 weeks and I’ll be in Iola and Elkhorn in early August for the swap meets. I do an annual run through Arizona, Nevada, Utah. and New Mexico seeking out junk, and cap the trip with a visit to WI, hunting parts at the meets. Vendors come from all over for the Iola and I always score well there. Last year’s prize was an Auburn Boattail, 100% complete, from a Michigan vendor. I’m gathering you may have enough years behind you to know what an Auburn Boattail is; if I mention it to anyone under 60 I mostly get blank looks. This oddball hobby leads me into the realm of that most fearsome of critters, the North American Junkyard Dog (Canus Untrustworthium). Hat – check; sunscreen – check; rabies shot – check. Mate, I never want to meet Leroy Brown!

        Hmmmmn?

      • jack says:

well i know what they are now, thanks google, when you say 100% complete do you mean all the bits are there it just needs to be completely rebuilt?

        • Wissendorf says:

Yes Jack, a rare to find with everything there. It had been partially dismantled for a rod job and had a glass body shell but the old body came with it. I only have to make the rear guards, a simple task. ‘Echo’ had to be rebuilt from the windscreen forward. You can see in the photo that front end doesn’t match the body.

    • Tracy says:

It’s been freezing in Sydney the last few days, got reverse cycle air conditioning but I really miss that nice gas wall furnace that we had during Canberra winters.

      • Jack The Insider says:

Watching the UK election results come in, Tracy? Seems I was about 40 seats out. Labour performing better than expected in the North. If the exit polls are right, May’s political career will be over by dinner time.

        • Tracy says:

Looks like the younger generation has learnt its lesson from the referendum and turned out to vote, suspect that is why the Labour vote has held. Ukip’s vote has disappeared, the SNP looks like it will lose over twenty seats and the Lib Dems may have enough MPs to fit in a lift rather than the phone booth.
No idea who could replace May, the referendum saw most of Cameron’s bunch off and nobody in their right mind would pick Boris, then again who would have thought Trump as president.

          • Jack The Insider says:

I’d expect Boris to announce his candidacy within 24 hours, Tracy. May will be gone by then. Yes, big turn out, seeing mid 70s in many electorates. God, can you imagine how angry the Tories are with May?

        • Boadicea says:

Which will be disastrous for the UK economy wouldn’t you think, Jack?

          • Jack The Insider says:

There will be a hung parliament. That is almost certain. The Tories with the most seats (around 320) will be given first crack at forming a government. How they or any other government that may emerge can hope to negotiate their way through Brexit verges on the impossible. I’d suggest they go back to the people asap with yet another election and another Brexit referendum.

          • Boadicea says:

Jeez, Jack. That would be interesting! Who do you think would win the next one – and do you think they would reverse Brexit?

          • jack says:

the tories won’t get first crack because they have the most seats, they will get first crack because they are the incumbents.

it will be May as PM who advises the Queen and absent a Labor majority she will advise that she believes she can form a government and she will be commissioned.

if she can’t keep the leadership the new leader will advise the Queen that he or she believes they can form a government etc.

          • jack says:

she might not be, but this is a hard one to pick.

Corbyn will be pleased but will the parliamentary Labor Party get behind him and stay there?

            • Jack The Insider says:

Seems like she will form minority govt with the DUP, Ian Paisley’s old mob. I give it eight months.

    • Perentie says:

“tracky daks and a sweatshirt”? Sounds like you’ve got togged up for a black tie function in Queanbeyan. You might need a lumberjacket as well as it’s pretty cold there now.

  • Huger Unson says:

Catholic schools have been ordered to stop hearing childrens’ confessions behind closed doors, as Melbourne Catholic Archbishop Denis Hart responds to new child safety rules.
What? They do that to primary school kids?
And we wonder when we hear about the brainwashing that produces child-soldiers, IS fanatics & Republicans.

    • Jack The Insider says:

Yes, the confessional provided ample opprtunity for priests to prey on little kids. The guts of the problem is what on Earth could an eight year old be expected to offer in confession.

      • Bella says:

Wow, no parent would take that risk now . I had no idea that was accepted practice even before the Royal C happened. How absurd and disturbingly private.

      • Mack the Knife says:

Bless me Father for I have sinned, it has been a week since my last confession. I said the word Jesus in vain when I fell over in the playground, and I said “bum” once and the nun belted me for it. For these and all the sins of my past life I am truly sorry.

        Pathetic hey?

  • Dismayed says:

Better call Saul. there are a few here who should listen to this bloke.

Moir cut loose from Fairfax. Madness. He is brilliant. Hope the Oz snaps him up. There are far more daggier toonists at Fairfax than him they could have chopped. Kudelka reigns here. Fantastic. Alaways funny.

  • Carl on the Coast says:

So, our Parole Boards apparently stuff up and our political leaders become trigger happy.

One gets the sense that it’s all unravelling.

  • Lou oTOD says:

Talk about a change of climate, over in WA where everything is different, Mark McGowan wants the new sports stadium to serve only light beer in the hospitality suites as well as well as out in the bleaches. Sacre Bleu.

No mention of the toffs sipping on a 14% alcohol Shiraz mind you, bet he hasn’t thought of that, but he may well get a lot fewer invites to watch the games behind the protection of glass.

A stark contrast to the six pack of full strength pint cans that were right of passage into Victoria Park in the sixties and seventies.

    • Penny says:

LouoTOD…..and once you’d drunk them all in the 1st quarter, you could stand on them to watch the rest of the game.

  • BASSMAN says:

THE ATTACK on BOLT:-I have just seen new more detailed footage of this.
Bolt is a Blot and I dislike him…mainly because he lies and he is a racist through and through.

    BUT

Those blokes who attacked him (and from behind) are a couple of cowards and I hope
they get put away for a long tyme if caught.

Bolt is pretty good on the knuckle from what I saw and I reckon they copped more
of a hiding than he did. Took the whole gang on!

No. Bolt did NOT deserve dat. The cowards attacked him from behind. He had no real chance to defend himself.
    A low low act….here have a gynee

Theresa May by 5 lengths, Mr Insider, as a betting man I place my bets before the race not after. As I said before if I am wrong I will put my face in my morning Wheaties tomorrow and blow bubbles and also phone Terence and book some Ballet lessons!

    • Dismayed says:

      Better start practising your Arabesque.

      • Henry Blofeld says:

As the late great horse Trainer Bart Cummings once remarked when one of his horses just won “a win by a short half head is as good as a win by 20 lengths” dear Dismayed. Your Uncle Henry has won once again! Didn’t see your prediction pre Poll? You must place your bets b4 the race chappie not after. Cheers.

  • Henry Blofeld says:

Andrew Bolt you magnificent bastard, Mr Insider, as we see he fought off a shameful physical attack in Melbourne. Its sad that life has come to this whereby just for speaking your mind you are openly attacked on the streets. Bolt gave a superb account of himself and just maybe he might like to set up a paid bout with Danny Green!
