Humble servant of the Nation

Bill Shorten is on the nose — especially among Labor’s grass roots

I’ll let you into a little secret. Bill Shorten is on the nose. I’m not talking about general community scepticism or the bounty of the Coalition’s “Kill Bill’’ strategy. There are grave concerns within the party itself, especially at the grass roots level.

To understand this best, we need to go back to the night of March 17, when Shorten stood with his right arm raised in triumph with Ged Kearney at the Northcote Town Hall. A seat Labor feared was lost had been retained despite the best efforts of the right-wing faction of the party.

Batman had once been the jewel in the Labor crown, the safest of seats in the Hawke-Keating era, safer even than Bob Hawke’s seat of Wills which joins Batman at its western fringe. Two decades later it had become an outpost due mainly to the right wing of the party treating one of its great assets as a factional plaything. First Martin Ferguson was parachuted in, then the right dropped in David Feeney after Feeney failed to get a winnable place on the senate ballot.

LOVED DIS:- Did you hear the one about the time Turnbull walked into a pub and everyone there became a millionaire… on average.

It might still be coming down the old copper cables to most of you because no one seems to have noticed the coalitions hand picked guy to finish off wrecking the NBN (not broadband network) the MT (multi technology, not sure copper can be called technology) has killed off any prospect of top speeds on MT internet. Once again the coalition have put their political ideology ahead of the National interest. No surprises.

Tracy – fancy a Welsh lad and a German goalkeeper contriving to spoil your morning. A great goal and some woeful goal keeping.
Anywho, thanks for running both of the comps. Now I can sit back and watch Australia win the world cup!

I hope that Loris is on suicide watch. He may never get over this. Liverpool were looking pretty good until Salah was hurt. Egypt will be devestated.

      • Milton says:

Salah definitely a big loss but even after a shocker from Loris they managed to equalise within 5 minutes. The overhead from Bale was the camel back breaker. Freakish. Sometimes putting a skilled and hungry player on the bench can bring out the best.
If they spend well, Klop will keep the Kop happy. Spurs are worth a look in too.

I don’t want to talk about it

Jesus, am I glad I’m missing all this!
Meanwhile I have been inducted into the 3-kiss fraternity, which here in Provence, is a solid smack on the cheeks. No “air” kisses here.
This was as a result of rolling the balls well………petanque balls gentlemen. Won the game, much to the delight of Benito, the team “captain” – who started talking about getting me a residence visa!

I got a better understanding why employment is up on the drive up the coast.
I lost count where there were at least 4 traffic controllers and 1 person doing the job – like sitting on a tractor mowing the grass.
Seek currently has 542 jobs – and that is just one firm.

The Victorian government has removed the Statute of Limitations in cases of child sexual abuse, an overdue legislative change, but even more profound, they have struck down and shredded the ‘Ellis Defense’, the excuse the Catholic Church has been hiding behind to avoid paying compensation to victims. Now victims can sue for real money not the pittance they might be offered by a Church which may now face bankruptcy. I think Australia would be a safer place for children if this crass, thoughtless, medieval organisation were bankrupted and banned forever. They do nothing of worth.

    • Trivalve says:

Bankruptcy? I quote the words of Lou Reed “You can’t depend on any churches
Unless there’s real estate you want to buy”. They can sell a few blocks of land with empty churches on them. Now who’s the bloke who looks after their finances? Oh, that’s right…

      • Wissendorf says:

LOL! You need a busload of faith to get by. I got the impression Rome was glad to see the rear of the accountant.

Listening to Cats v Blues Jack. It was looking like a lean night, but the Blues have steadied the ship and made some inroads. Cats haven’t scored for half an hour. Looking like a good game nearing 1/2 time.

RAZOR…YOU SAY:-“Buoyant global economy you say Bassy? As for debt we had none when Rudd was elected”.
Are you insane? Costello left a $90billion structural deficit we will be paying off forever according to the man himself on the 7.30 Report. If Costello had the revenue Swan had, NINE of his so called “surpluses” would have been in deficit. Costello arrived at his surpluses via huge taxation, good luck and selling off everything we owned including the family silver. Ever heard of the GFC? Well it cost labor $160billion in revenue son. Labor high taxing? Here ya go Bald…. The seven highest TAXING years in the history of our country have ALL been under Liberal governments. The ten highest SPENDING years in the history of our country have ALSO been under Liberal governments. There have been only seven occasions where the tax to GDP ratio has been in excess of 23.5 per cent of GDP and all seven were under the Liberals.
