The simple fact overlooked in Serena Williams fallout

It’s a tricky move to attach gender or race motives to an umpire officiating a tennis match between two women: one Afro-American, the other half-Japanese, half-Haitian but one by one, too many members of the commentariat to count worked overtime to pull it off.

In the morass of Op-Eds scrawled in the wake of the US women’s Open final, focus quickly became lost and one rather simple fact was ignored:

The umpire is always right.

Take this tweet from ABC presenter, Virginia Trioli. She claimed to have read almost all there was to read about what had happened and only then had been moved to judgment by way of retweet with comment. The retweet was of a judgy columnist, Margaret Sullivan, who splatters words around for the Washington Post and the New York Times, sometimes in some recognisable order. She, in turn, was tweeting up a rapidly cobbled together think piece from Sally Jenkins at WaPo. Jenkins, Sullivan enthused, got it “exactly right.”

The world really has been knocked of its axis. A Chinese hotpot chain has had $190 million dollar knocked OFF its value because a rat was found in its broth and someone wasn’t happy! In the good old days of Mao fellow diners would have pleaded ”I want what she’s having”. Not any more. Spoilt bloody nouveau capitalists.

Trivalve – I nearly didn’t recognise you, being on top of the leader board and all! And I could get used to Tracy being where she is…

Some would have us believe that Murdoch forced Turnbull into calling an unnecessary spill that led to his downfall. And Fairfax were in on it too! What a load of ABC/lefty/labor type paranoid nonsense. I believe that all the commenters on this blog, from both sides, with their relentless anti-Turnbull negativity forced his hand bringing about his demise. Everyone, Turnbull included, seems to have forgotten the benchmark he himself set for removing a leader (30 negative polls). Plus his own comment regarding the Longman bi-election and its reflection on his leadership (not too flash!).
Beyond that, and on general elections, how many of the great unwashed read the Australian or watch Sky? I doubt there are that many and certainly very few with the same intensity as those dismayed labor/green types. I would suggest that more voters listened to Fairfax via Jones and Hadley. Like most conspiracy theories there are too many awkward pieces to form a puzzle.

Woolworths putting their Mil up 10 cents, Mr. Insider with that 10 cents going to Drought-stricken Farmers.
Well done them but would mean more if Woolworths had kept the price the same and THEY gave 10 cents to the Farmers, as it now stands it is WE their Customer who is making the sacrifice, not Woolworths!
Agriculture Minister, David Littleproud, praising Woolworths for their “initiative”. Strewth

Well then Carl I hope that lays that report to rest…..rejecting ABC reports seems to be the thing these days

Not at all Penny. Just healthy inquiring minds at work, that’s all. But some appear to believe that one should “never let the facts …. etc, etc. I wonder what Mark Twain would say if he saw some of the stuff being offered up by the ABC nowadays, eh? And let’s not forget Probyn has form.

Overseas Au Pair anyone? No Visa, no problems big Petey Dutton will have your Au Pair in your home in 1 hour!
What a shocker Dutton is and FGS he should be referred to the High Court over the doubt about his eligibility to sit in the House.
Australia we might not think a lot of ScoMo but thank god we didn’t get Dutton as PM! Strewth.
