In the Canberra space, no one can hear anybody scream

You may have heard the phrase, much-beloved by corporate types and politicians alike, “in the space”.

During question time this week, the Minister for Social Services, Dan Tehan, in receipt of a Dorothy Dixer from the member for Tangney, Dan Morton, lauded his colleague for having “a keen interest in the welfare space”.

If you keep an eye on reporting of the corporate world the same phrase pops up with monotonous regularity. A bloke who works in a bank is almost invariably described as having a “long history of working in the finance space”.

It’s an annoying phrase, vague and faddish, and I regret having to use it – but I fear I must because there is something deeply, deeply wrong in the Canberra space.

Come yesterday, the crazy-meter was already quivering at the red extreme after government senator Michaelia Cash’s outburst the previous day. It slipped into “dangerously unhinged” when Labor senator Kim Carr reached deep into his Godwin’s Law sack of epithets to refer to Liberal senator James Paterson as a member of the Hitler-Jugend.

Very educative wraith. Speaking of destroying the world; What do they mine at Olympic Dam? As a second question; Do they mine that substance in Queensland?

If “undesirables” can be zapped out of existence, by, eg, a sarin-like substance sprayed from a drone, then we may be entering a new era of terrorism by State actors.

May not be safe for anyone, even indoors.
Amber Rudd has her work cut out, on this one. May be best to hospital-pass it to Boris.

Hero, you haven’t heard it all. My eldest is educated clever. He has been scarring the old lady nickers off me by telling me how deadly some of these chemicals that have been produced now can be. Only a few micros in a billion, and you’re gone. If they let a vial of the stuff lose in a shopping mall, everyone dead, no survivors. Luckily, so far, its very hard to obtain or produce, but if say a government, like maybe Russia, decides to use it. there isnt much you can do.

Good analysis from the Professor. Consumer consumption built on debt and State Governments keeping the Nation afloat. Just.

With further reports that the National expected an “avalanche of allegations” against mad barnaby it is clear the organisation is nothing more than a good old boys club that wants to cover up and excuse the disgraceful behaviour. The other internal “reports” from the nats show they are more concerned about information getting out than the issues raised by complainants . The nats have not served the bush or regional areas for decades. It is clear it is just a bunch of old guys in poorly fitting hats serving themselves as much taxpayer largesse as they can get. No surprises.
